PREFACE
The Pharmacology handbook for medical and dental students is a fundamental aid in mastering basic concepts of this discipline and contains materials for on-going and pre-exam preparation.
The first 4 chapters are a guide on prescriptions and include the regulatory base and rules for prescribing different dosage forms, grouped as solid, liquid, semi-solid and aerosol respectively. Mastering these skills is part of the basis of overall medical training and exceptionally useful to future doctors.
The fifth chapter contains multiple choice questions on general pharmacology such as drug pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, which are covered in detail.
All other chapters are dedicated to special pharmacology and each of them is based on the following model: classification of drug groups, practice tests and prescription tasks on a specific topic, studied in the course of pharmacology training. The proposed test questions and prescription tasks contribute to the verification of the acquired material and its critical assessment.
The handbook provides the opportunity for teachers and students to work in the field of pharmacology, both during practical classes and in students’ self-training. It contributes to the full realization of the practical classes and the successful passing of the pharmacology exam.
The present second edition is in line with the current international classifications of drug groups and the training guidelines for medical students in the European Union.
